From morning to night, each day, an unbelievable amount of plastic is used. Just close your eyes and think about how much plastic you use in a day. A lot right? For most of us, grabbing a straw, or a plastic water bottle is just normal. You don’t even have to take a second to think about it. But what I’m asking you today, is to take that second. Think about the impact that plastic makes on our world. As we know, plastic takes trillions of years to biodegrade, and rather than having the earth wait those trillions of years, why don’t we just take a second? Why can’t we take a second to buy a metal bottle, or stop using plastic bags? Of course, all good things take time, so we can’t expect the earth to be spick and span when WE stop using plastic. And to be honest, it’s almost impossible to cut ALL the plastic from our lives. But the least we can do is learn a little bit more about the single use plastics, and how we can prevent using them.

- The Plastic Water Bottle.
They say that a plastic bottle has a long journey. Through the garbage cans all the way to the ocean, and into a poor fish’s belly. Let’s stop this journey and add our own places to it. For starters, not in our homes.
- Instead, let’s use metal water bottles. Metal bottles will keep your drink cool for longer, even in the sun, unlike plastic ones. Metal Water bottles last way longer than plastic water bottles, and are ideal for long trips. They do need to be refilled, but the pre-filled water in plastic water bottles can be unappetizing. Leaving them in the sun can change the color, smell, or even taste! True, that it is a myth that the microplastics in plastic water bottles might go into your water if you drink it, but they are still not a healthy option. In conclusion, don’t use plastic bottles, instead use metal ones.

A straw. A simple straw. What can it do to the environment? It can do lots. It can start from your very own home and end up in the ocean, and up a poor turtle’s nose. Spoon, Forks, Knives and so much more. There are many things we can do about these!
- bring your own spoons and forks to parties.
- Give up using straws-who needs them anyways?( If you can’t survive without a straw, then but metal ones. They are safe to the environment!

3. Plastic Bags
Plastic Bags. We get them literally from every grocery store we go to. Plastic bags can cause severe damage to the environment. Bigger fish can mistake it for starfish and accidently eat it. Smaller fish will think it is food once it breaks up into many pieces. What to do to solve this problem? It can be one of the most dangerous things out of all of these! Here are some things we can do!
- Bring a reusable bag to the grocery store!
- If you can’t remember to bring a reusable bag, then keep a few in the car!
- If there are cardboard boxes lying around in your house, then use those!
- If you haven’t bought many items, then don’t use a bag at all!
Now that you know all of these tips and tricks to get rid of plastic from your daily usage, go ahead and give them a try. When you do so, you are being an earth hero!
