When I was first starting this blog, (not so long ago) I was DREADING the point where I would have to pick a name. When it cam time for me to choose my domain, I was completely BLANK. I tried a TRILLION name generators, and let me tell you, that is NOT the way to go. See, the way most generators work, they’ll ask you for a couple keywords, and then build off of those to give you a name. The problem here is when someone might use the same keywords as another person. The results end up being the same, or relatively similar. The name generators all gave me the same cliché names that it probably recommended to a whole bunch of other people. When I finally found a name I actually liked, the domain WASN’T AVAILIBLE! I realized that I would have to come up with my own name, without using any online generator. Sounds easy, but it’s a lot harder than it may seem. I was pretty much blanking out, and I didn’t have an OUNCE of an idea. Finally, I thought a little bit about what my blog would be about- lifestyle/hobbies/sisterhood That only helped me get PART of the name, but it could work for you. Pinch of Yum, Cool Math Games, and even YouTube, have used this technique. So FINALLY, how did I get the name? Well believe it or not, this name was pretty random! When I was starting my blog out, I REALLY wanted to call it Red Kangaroo. I don’t know why, because I don’t even LIKE kangaroos that much. Turns out it was taken, so I had to come up with something else. I knew my blog was going to be about me, and my position as a sister. (Yes, it’s an official job) I found it to be unique, because I had seen SOOOOOO many mom blogs, but I had never seen a blog about being a sister. (I see why, but…still) So now I had the word “sister”. Honestly, anything like sisterhood, or sis would have been a little cringy or too specific. I think sister is the perfect word for it. Obviously, I didn’t want to be sister.com (which is taken), so I decided to add an adjective to it. It had be catchy, so people would want to visit this website. It also had to be a name that you wouldn’t forget too easily. My candidates were clever, cool, genius, charming, and witty (of course, I’m all of those). Clever and cool= WAYYY too much cringe. Cool and genius= a little TOO far. Charming= not catchy enough. That left witty. Although it’s not a common word, I find it to be catchy and very interesting. I don’t know about you guys, but Witty Sister is definitely unforgettable for me. If you need help coming up with a name, I’m going to be posting a website name maker, which isn’t like a generator, but more like a choose-your-own-path name creator.
– Sincerely , the Witty Sister. 🙂
