You walk into the kitchen, pack some chips in a Ziploc bag, and stuff it into your backpack. You hear the bus arriving, and rush to dump a steaming sandwich into the plastic box which you drop in as well. The bus is just at your stop as you fill your plastic bottle, grab it, and run. You just jump into the bus, as it takes off. You just realize how much plastic you have used. You think about for a sec, but soon comfort yourself with “It’s only for today,” and “What can a little piece of plastic do to me?”

What went wrong? Nearly everything. Many people have had this mindset before. Why do you think that there is so much plastic in this world?

Here are some reasons why you should avoid plastic in the kitchen:

  • When you heat food up, and put it in a plastic container, the harmful chemicals can go into your food. Plastic can even heat up quickly by simply putting it in the sun.
  •  Some plastic products, like Ziploc bags, are thrown away at first use. They are then carried away into the ocean where a creature might mistaken it for food and eat it.

Concerned yet???

Well, I hope so, because this is a very important matter. Luckily, there are some substitutes to these pesky products. (Roughly Priced)

  •  Steel Lunch Boxes-

Price: Around $20 depending on the brand

  • Glass Containers-

Price: $20 for 5

  • Aluminum Foil-

Price: $10

  • Metal Water Bottle-

Price: $17

  • Metal Straws-

Price: $7 for 4

  • Silicone Bags-

Price: $19

After hearing about all these alternatives, I hope you  go ahead and try them out. I know they work for me! Oh! And, here is the paragraph you read earlier. Just without the plastic.

You walk into the kitchen, pack some chips in a silicone bag, and stuff it into your backpack. You hear the bus arriving, and rush to dump a steaming sandwich into the metal box which you drop in as well. The bus is just at your stop as you fill your metal bottle, grab it, and run. You just jump into the bus, as it takes off. You just realize how environmentally – friendly  you have been. You think about for a sec, smile, and enjoy the rest of your ride with comforting thoughts like “ I did such a great job” and “ I’m a life-saver!”.

Notice anything different? I really hope you guys try these methods out and enjoy saving the world from plastic!
